Songs I’m Listening To (06/18/2021)

Back again like I’m Von and Durk. As promised, an article of ten songs I’m listening to will be delivered every single month until I leave this website. The last month been very busy for me, went on vacation (pictured above), got ankle surgery, and in the middle of all that I’m taking summer classes for school. However, the show always goes on. Let’s get into it.

1. Lil Baby & Lil Durk – Hats Off ft. Travis Scott

Lil Baby and Lil Durk finally dropped their long-awaited collaboration project, “The Voice of The Heroes” on June 4th and in my opinion it did not disappoint at all. Durk and Baby have an undeniable chemistry that is palpable on all 18 tracks. From the production to Durk and Baby trading bars back and forth, this is the perfect song to blast in the car or during a workout. And just when you think the song is coming to an end, Travis comes in and absolutely bodies the song. I can’t wait for Utopia to drop. It’s looking like 2021 has started to heat up in terms of music drops. And it’s only up from here.

2. Pi’erre Bourne – 40 Clip

Pi’erre is going crazy right now all over social media. Even with the crowded album drop that was June 11th with both Migos and Polo G dropping their albums, “TLOP 5” still made a lot of noise. And it definitely deserved the recognition it go. It’s hard enough to rise to the top of the rap game in general, but to be able to do it producing too is just another level. I’m happy I finally listened to my friends who have been telling me to listen to Pi’erre forever. I’m not familiar with his whole discography prior to TLOP5, but this album was great and did not disappoint.

3. Pi’erre Bourne – Couch

This doesn’t need any explanation. Just listen to the song. It’s pretty easy to want to replay it after you listen for the first time. The transition from “HULU” to this song is undefeated. Pi’erre is incredibly talented and I’m happy he’s getting the recognition he deserves.

4. Polo G – No Return ft. The Kid LAROI & Lil Durk

I’m getting really sick of the Polo G slander I’m seeing on my socials lately. You’re talking about the same guy who made “DND” and “Finer Things“. Absolutely disgraceful to hear the slander and disrespect. He’s currently 3/3 on albums for me, however I will agree that “Hall Of Fame” is his weakest. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a good piece of work though. In terms of this song, everyone on here did their job. Laroi was great on the hook, Polo killed his verse, and Durk did what he was supposed to do. Body the song. Hopefully Polo stay out of trouble and continue his already illustrious career.

5. Capella Grey – Gyalis

I know absolutely nothing about Capella Grey, but I know that this song is incredible. I heard this song on TikTok and immediately added it to the late night drive playlist. Which you can find by clicking on these words.

6. Young Thug – For Y’all ft. Jacquees

I was just bored a couple of days ago and went to go listen this album because it was its four year anniversary. And while doing so I rediscovered this gem. I forgot how good of an album this was, and the fact that it’s still slept on to this day is quite frustrating I can’t lie. The last 50 seconds on this song does the explaining for me. If you don’t like it then that’s on you my guy. Great music always stands the test of time.

7. Don Toliver – Drugs N Hella Melodies ft. Kali Uchis

Don Toliver has NEVER MISSED. His upcoming album, “Life Of A Don” is coming soon and I couldn’t be more excited. “Drugs N Hella Melodies” is just an example of the potential that Don has. Any song he gets on he is able to find his sound within. Kali Uchis is also a great addition to the track with her vocals on her hook and their chemistry is defiantly apparent on the song. Now if you know me, you know I love my slowed music. Which Don Toliver is one of the best to listen to slowed. I mean, just look at this. Can’t wait for the album. Cactus Jack on another level.

8. Roddy Ricch – Late At Night

One of the most anticipated songs of the summer finally dropped earlier this month, and it did not disappoint. Just like Don Toliver, Roddy Ricch (in my humble opinion) has never missed. The “Thriller” inspired video was also a great touch to a song that is great for some late night vibes during summer. The 22 year-old Compton native has yet to drop a project since his hit album, “Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial” dropped in December of 2019. The world is patiently waiting. And I have a feeling it’s coming this year.

9. Migos – Avalanche

This right here is just another showcase of why you can NEVER count Migos out. No matter what they do by themselves, whether it be features or solo project, you just know that when the three of them get together it’s going to be a hit. The Temptations sample over the underlying hard beat with all of them going off is just pure bliss. There’s always going to be haters whenever you make it, but the people that disrespected Migos should be swallowing their words right now. The best rap group of our generation.

10. Migos – Modern Day

Self explanatory. The best song on the album. Why wouldn’t I be listening?

That will conclude June’s edition of “songs I’m listening to”. Thank you all for continuing to tune in and hopefully I will be taking my content to YouTube this Fall. If everything falls into place we should be good to go for the podcast to finally go live. This is YSN, signing out.
