Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli (Striker)
Arsenal haven’t made much noise this transfer window just yet. They have inquired about three big money moves for Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha, Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, and LOSC Lille winger Nicolas Pépé. Their original bid for Zaha of $56 Million plus three undisclosed players was rejected by Palace, as they are asking around $99 Million to send Zaha to the Gunners. After getting their bids for both Tierney and Pépé rejected, Arsenal’s lone signing of the summer has been 18 year-old Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli for $7.5 Million. The young talent has already scored on his preseason debut on July 15th against American side Colorado Rapids. Manager Unai Emery has already hinted at Martinelli getting some first team action during the season. The Gunners have stated that they want to bring in new talent for this upcoming year, we’ll see who they go after.
Aston Villa: Wesley (Striker)
After winning the Championship Playoff-Final against Derby County, Aston Villa are back in the premier league for the first time since finishing 20th in 2016. Since star player Tammy Abraham’s loan deal from Chelsea expired, Villa were in the market for a new forward. They went big and signed 22 year old Brazilian striker Wesley from Club Brugge. Wesley is Aston Villa’s most expensive signing ever coming in at roughly $28 Million. Wesley is a proven target man after scoring 17 goals in all competitions for the Belgian side. Villa also made left-back Tyrone Mings’s loan deal permanent after buying him from Bournemouth for $25 Million. Aston Villa has hit the gas pedal on spending this summer and it should help the club stay up this season.
Bournemouth: Lloyd Kelly (Left Back)
Going into their fifth straight Premier League campaign the Cherries have been consistently playing decent football. After never being in the Premier League, to now staying up five years in a row, Bournemouth have solidified themselves as a club who should not be taken lightly. Their marquee signing of the summer has been 20 year old left-back Lloyd Kelly. Kelly has been brought in from his hometown club of Bristol City for a fee of $16.5 Million. Kelly brings a solid defensive presence to the Cherries back line, and should help them stay up for a sixth consecutive year.
Brighton & Hove Albion: Leandro Trossard (Winger)
After barely escaping relegation by only two points last year, Brighton had to make a big move this summer. They went on and signed 24 year-old Belgian winger Leandro Trossard from Belgian side Genk. Trossard is the club’s most expensive signing ever coming in at $22.3 Million. He scored 22 goals in all competitions last year for Genk, and will be put immediately into the Seagulls starting lineup. He will have to show up big for them if Brighton want to stay up another year.
Burnley: Jay Rodriguez (Striker)
After finishing in a surprising 7th place for their 2017/2018 campaign, Burnley took a step down by finishing in 15th place last year. Their lone signing of the transfer window so far is their hometown boy, 29 year-old striker Jay Rodriguez. Rodriguez was born in Burnley and went through their youth academy all the way into the first team. He left the club in 2012 to Southampton for five years and then West Bromwich Albion for the last two years. Rodriguez arrives after a very successful year at West Brom, scoring 22 goals and recording 6 assists. Hopefully this will push the Clarets closer to a mid table finish.
Chelsea: Mateo Kovačić (Central Midfielder)
To the surprise of a lot of fans, Chelsea made Mateo Kovačić’s loan deal permanent from Real Madrid for $50 Million. Kovačić did not have a very good season last year for the Blues scoring no goals and only contributing three assists. However with new manager Frank Lampard, who was a maestro in the midfield, there is new hope for the young Croatian to succeed.
Crystal Palace: Jordan Ayew (Striker) (RUMOR)
Although it has not been officially completed, Ayew is rumored to have his loan deal made permanent by the Eagles for around $10 Million. After losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and possibly losing Wilfried Zaha, Palace is going to have to make multiple moves in order to stay up this season.
Everton: André Gomes (Central Midfielder)
After finishing 8th for the second season in a row, the Toffees still have work to do if they want to get into any European qualifying position. They’ve started by making the loan of 25 year-old midfielder André Gomes from Barcelona permanent. They purchased Gomes for about $28 Million. During his loan spell at Goodison Park he scored only one goal and recorded one assist. Let’s see if he can improve this year and help the Toffees climb up the table.
Leicester City: Youri Tielemans (Central Midfielder)
After a slow start to the season, the Foxes ended the year on a positive note with new manager Brendan Rogers coming in and rejuvenating the club. Leicester have gone on to make the loan deal of 22 year-old Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans from AS Monaco permanent for $50.5 Million. Tielemans scored three goals and recorded four assists in 13 appearances, but seemed to fit well in Brendan Rogers’s scheme. The Foxes also added striker Ayoze Pérez from Newcastle for $38.2 Million, so things are looking up at the King Power Stadium.
Liverpool: Sepp van den Berg (Centerback)
After a successful 2018/2019 campaign the Reds have little to replace. All of their key players are returning and their depth is strong at every position. They’ve decided to go out and invest in a young talent from the Eredivisie. They have bought 17 year-old Dutch center back Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle. He will be learning directly under arguably the best defender in the world, and fellow Dutchman, Virgil Van Dijk. This is a great pickup for the Reds and he will learn a lot under fellow Dutch internationals Van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Manchester City: Rodri (Central Midfielder)
After winning the Premier League for the second year in a row, Guardiola’s men don’t need much improving. However, they decided to go out and take their team to another level. City signed 23 year-old Spanish midfielder Rodri from Atlético Madrid for $78.5 Million, a new club record. Rodri fits perfectly into Guardiola’s system and will definitely find himself some first team action for the Citizens.
Manchester United: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Right Back)
After a disappointing season for the Red Devils, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has his hands full this year. He started off on the right foot by signing 21 year-old English right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for $62 Million. Right back was a much needed position for United after fans were quite disappointed by captain Ashley Young’s performance last year. After finishing sixth, United need a big bounce back year and signing Wan-Bissaka is definitely the right start. United have also almost completed the move of 26 year-old English center-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City. Maguire has said that after his move is completed he wants to captain the Red Devils, following in his idol Rio Ferdinand’s footsteps. With all of the pressure surrounding the club, we’ll see how Solskjær does with a full year as manager.
Newcastle: Joelinton (Striker) (RUMOR)
22 year-old Brazilian striker Joelinton is rumored to be going to Newcastle from 1899 Hoffenheim by the end of today. Joelinton scored 11 goals and recorded six assists last year for the German side. The sale is reportedly going to be the most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history coming in at $60 Million.
Norwich City: Ralf Fährmann (Goalkeeper)
After cruising to a Championship title last year to get promoted, Norwich have not been making any noise this transfer window. Their big signing isn’t even a signing technically, it’s a loan. 30 year-old German goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann has agreed to a one year loan from FC Schalke 04. Fährmann brings experience and depth to the newly promoted side. We will see how the Canaries get on in the Premier League this year.
Sheffield United: Callum Robinson (Striker)
After surprisingly finishing second in the championship table, Sheffield United have qualified for the premier league for the first time since 2006. They went big and signed 24 year-old Irish striker Callum Robinson from Preston North End. Robinson scored 13 goals and recorded 4 assists in 28 appearances for Preston. Sheffield have signed him for a club record $8.7 Million. The Blades have also signed former player Phil Jagielka from Everton on a free transfer adding some Premier League experience. No one expected the Blades to be here, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they shock everyone and stay up this year.
Southampton: Danny Ings (Striker)
After struggling mightily last season, the Saints have gone out and splashed the cash this summer. First, they made the loan deal of 26 year-old English striker Danny Ings permanent for $25 Million from Liverpool. Ings had a decent loan spell at St Mary’s last year after scoring 8 goals and recording 3 assists. Southampton then went out and added some youth to the squad. They signed 22 year-old striker Che Adams from Birmingham City for $18.8 Million and 20 year-old winger Moussa Djenepo from Standard Liège for $17.6 Million. Adams was named to the Championship team of the year last year after scoring 22 goals and recording 5 assists. Djenepo had a successful year as well, scoring 8 goals and recording 4 assists for the Belgian side. With these additions I think Southampton will stay in the Premier League for a ninth year in a row.
Tottenham: Tanguy Ndombele (Central Midfielder)
After a successful 2018/2019, Spurs leveled up with two signings this summer. After no signings the past two windows, the fans were screaming for new additions. 22 year-old French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele arrived from Olympique Lyon for $67.4 Million. The Frenchmen will be paired with fellow French international Moussa Sissoko to form one of the best midfield pairings in the premier league. Tottenham also bought 18 year-old Irish winger Jack Clark from Leeds United for $12.4 Million. However, they immediately sent him back on a season long loan to develop him more before he’s ready for Premier League action. Spurs are also heavily linked to 19 year-old English left midfielder Ryan Sessengon from Fulham. Spurs are looking like they are headed for another successful year.
Watford: Ismaïla Sarr (Winger) (RUMOR)
Watford had a solid year last year finishing in 11th place. They haven’t made any major singings so far but their main target is 21 year-old Senegalese winger Ismaïla Sarr from Stade Rennais. The Hornets are currently battling Arsenal for the young talent’s signature. Sarr scored 13 goals and recorded 11 assists in all competitions last year. He would be a massive signing for either club. However, reports are saying that he wants to play football at Vicarage Road next year. If the Hornets are able to land Sarr, it would be a huge boost to the club and will help them challenge for another mid table finish this upcoming year.
West Ham: Sébastien Haller (Striker)
West Ham finished 10th in the premier league last year and the Hammers were not satisified. They have made two massive signings so far in this transfer window. First they signed 25 year-old French Striker Sébastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record fee of $45 Million. Haller scored 20 goals and recorded 9 assists in all competitions for the German side last year. The Hammers also went out and signed 23 year-old Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals from Villareal for $31.5 Million. With the addition of both Haller and Fornals, things are looking up at the London Stadium next year. West Ham are also heavily linked to strikers Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus and Moussa Marega from FC Porto, which would make their attack one to be reckoned with in England.
Wolves: Raúl Jiménez (Striker)
After scoring 13 goals and recording 8 assists last season, Wolves have made Raúl Jiménez their most expensive signing at $43 Million. Jiménez was a huge part of the clubs successful 2018/2019 year, as they surprised everyone by finishing in 7th place just after being promoted from the Championship. Wolves made Jiménez’s loan deal permanent from Benfica and have him signed on for four more years. Wolves have also been linked to Atlético Madrid midfielder Ángel Correa. The 24 year-old Argentinian has fallen out of favor with manager Diego Simeone and is looking for a move out of Madrid. Wolves have a chance to qualify for Europa League this year through a play-off and once again look like an exciting side to watch this year.
