Five things to take from Week 13

Five things to take from Week 13

I just want to have a memorial service for this Patriots offense. Our best receiving corps we’ve had in years, our most talented running back duo and two good tight ends are all going to waste. A great big thank you to Matt Patricia, Joe Judge and Mac Jones for making that happen. So painful to watch man. Despite that harsh reality, you all aren’t here to read about the Patriots offense problems. We’re here to talk about what I saw in week 13. Let’s get into it.

1. Christian Watson has been on a tear

Through the first nine weeks of the season Christian Watson had no receiving touchdowns and only one rushing. The second-round pick out of North Dakota State came in with high expectations hoping to contribute immediately for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. On the first play of the Packers season, he dropped a wide-open 75 yard touchdown. He wasn’t involved in the offense much after that, receiving only five targets in weeks 4-9 (he was injured for a couple of those weeks). Despite all this, ever since week 10 Watson has become a big playmaker in this Green Bay offense. Here are his totals since…

15 catches for 313 yards and seven touchdowns

Two rushes for 49 yards and a touchdown

This is what we call a playmaker. Now who will be throwing him the ball next season? That’s a whole other question.

2. No NFL game should end in a tie

It messes up my prediction records, it doesn’t make anyone happy on either side and it just looks ugly when you look at a teams record and see _-_-1. I’ve had enough. No more ties. Make it happen NFL.

3. A.J. Brown gave his old team an old-fashioned whooping

A.J. Brown delivers a masterclass and then hours later the Titans GM gets fired. Life is very funny at times. Eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns is what happened on Sunday. The former Ole Miss standout has 61 catches for 950 yards and 9 touchdowns and the Eagles are flying with an 11-1 record. Now how will this team perform in the playoffs? That’s something we’re going to have to wait to find out.

4. Brock Purdy season has begun

After losing Trey Lance for the season for an ankle injury, Jimmy Garoppolo has also been ruled out of the year with a foot/ankle injury. Now the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Brock Purdy, will be the 49ers starting quarterback for the rest of the way. Purdy, a former starter at Iowa State, will try to lead this 8-4 Niners team to the promise land for the first time since the early 1990’s. The former Cyclone went 25-37 for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a win against the Dolphins. Some reporters were even saying that he was the best looking quarterback at training camp. All I know is that this 49ers team, when fully healthy, has the potential of winning the NFC. It’s now time to see if this rookie can step into those big shoes when the bright lights come on.

5. Tom Brady has done it again

I just want to preface this by saying the Buccaneers still look awful this season. But despite that, this man Tom Brady is still finding a way to pull off these game-winning drives at the age of 45. Brady went 36-54 for 281 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner to Rachaad White. Tampa is currently sitting at 6-6, but with their division their playing level could honestly get them to the playoffs somehow. They will take on Brock Purdy and the Niners on Sunday followed by a visit from the reigning AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals.

That will conclude another week of the National Football League. Are you all prepared to see a possible Derek Carr vs. Baker Mayfield matchup on Thursday Night Football?? Because I for sure am not. Ladies and gentlemen, there is a lot of sports to consume in these next couple of days. Let’s just hope I stay sane throughout the Morocco vs. Portugal quarterfinal match on Saturday. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
