Songs I’m listening to (10/10/2022)

We are moving into the fourth quarter of album drop season. Many big names are yet to drop as they try to take their place as the “Album of the Year”. Will Travis Scott ever drop Utopia? I guess we won’t know until we are pressing play to listen to it. I have some songs to tell you guys about. Let’s get into it.

1. Yeat – Flawlëss ft. Lil Uzi Vert , 2. Yeat – Out thë way

Yeat has found himself earning a lot of “firsts” this year, and rightfully so. He is an extremely talented artist that has gained the attention of the whole music industry. Shout outs from Drake and Lil Uzi Vert don’t come to just anybody, you have to actually be putting out quality.

“They done put faith in the kid, huh”

He’s not selling 100K units first week, but his takeover of TikTok and deals with the Minions movie are all apart of smart marketing moves that can only increase his longevity in the rap game. Hope he keeps putting out this great music.

“I bought a Urus today, uh-huh. Paint it all yellow, look like a bird”

3. K-Trap – Spoilt , 4. K-Trap – Extra Sleeve ft. Headie One

K-Trap has been slowly creeping up the ranks as one of my favorite artists from the UK. After his song, “Warm” went viral the Gipsy Hill rapper has been applying all sorts of pressure dropping hit after hit.

“Me and bro plannin’ a works at brunch and I’m eatin’ this chicken caesar (Caesar). Opps wanna hang near the shops. Pull up at the chicken shop like Amelia”

It’s only a matter of time until he starts showing up on rap fans radar in America.

5. Quavo & Takeoff – To The Bone ft. YoungBoy Never Broke Again , 6. Quavo & Takeoff – Nothing Changed

Quavo and Takeoff are trying to tell that you despite Offset not being apart of this album, nothing has changed for the Atlanta rappers.

“Don’t nothin’ change but the chains”

I haven’t even finished the album yet, but these two songs have caught my eye. As a Migos fan it’s undeniable that all three of them are their best when they are together, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t make good music without one another. Takeoff is still the best Migo though, and that isn’t for debate.

“I done been jumpin’ off porches, ain’t talkin’ Adidas, I earned my stripes”

7. Tems – Free Mind

We all know Tems hit song, “Higher” and how Future used her sample for his own hit song “WAIT FOR U” with Drake, but her greatness doesn’t just stop there. “Free Mind” is a song about not being able to escape one’s pain through heartbreak. Tems paints the vivid picture through the song and is just asking for a “Free Mind” from this pain.

“The noise in my mind wouldn’t leave me. I try to get by but I’m burning”

The song was originally released on her project, “For Broken Ears” in 2020. I’m happy she’s getting some of the recognition she deserves now.

8. Nipsey Hussle – Hussle & Motivate

t’s crazy how we are coming up on four years since Nipsey passed away. One thing we know for sure is that his legacy and art will always remain. Whenever I’m in the gym and I play this song I know I can always go for an extra rep or two on my last set. And you can feel just as good if you’re playing this song on a late night drive too.

“This all I’m tryna do, hustle and motivate”

9. Roddy Ricch – Stop Breathing

Roddy Ricch has been the subject of a lot of slander ever since the release of his last project, “Live Life Fast” last December. Twitter has been constantly saying that the Compton rapper had “fallen off”, but Roddy has other plans. Even though his last project didn’t go as planned, no one can deny both the potential and true talent that he has. We all know what he’s capable of, it’s just whether he can shut up the haters once and for all on his next piece of work.

“Countin’ up this new money, every single day I’m home. I ain’t worried ’bout what they be on”

10. Tory Lanez – No More Parties in LA

I still need to give Tory’s album the full listen it deserves, but this song right here is one of my favorites that I’ve heard so far this year. A song that Tory originally previewed before the release of his album, “MEMORIES DON’T DIE”, Tory finally released this gem about five years later.

“Wonder if she hear me when I say. Please, no more parties in L.A.”

There’s so much music dropping right now that I need to go back and give full listens to all albums that have been on my radar. One thing I know is that I’m going to have a lot of fun writing my end of the year article. Only two more months until that will be officially out. Can’t wait for y’all to read. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
