Five things to take from NFL Week 5

Five things to take from NFL Week 5

This was an all-time weekend of football. From the Red River Rivalry, Alabama losing, to Jon Gruden resigning as the Raiders head coach. The Falcons had to go to London to finally give Kyle Pitts targets, Favela Tom Brady launching five touchdowns at the age of 44, Sam Darnold unfortunately returned to his old ways and Dan Campbell shed tears at his press conference about his team. Ultimate football guy. You guys know the drill. Let’s get into it.

Why Geno Smith can lead the Seahawks until Russell Wilson returns

1. The Geno Smith Show has returned

During Thursday’s loss to the Rams in Seattle, Russell Wilson suffered a ruptured middle finger tendon after getting his hand caught by Aaron Donald during a throw. Wilson is expected to miss possibly 6-8 weeks, his first ever time missing the field in his 10th season. Geno Smith, a former star quarterback for West Virginia, came into the game and delivered for the Seahawks. Smith drove down the field and threw a strike to DK Metcalf to put seven on the board for Seattle and things were looking up for the Seahawks. However, Smith threw a late game-deciding interception, as the Rams walked out of Lumen Field with a victory. Before Thursday, Smith hadn’t thrown a touchdown since 2017. Seattle is in for a long stretch as in the next five weeks they will play the Steelers, Saints, Jaguars, Packers, and Cardinals. The NFL world will see how the Seahawks play without Russell Wilson for the first time in over a decade.

NFL Week 5 winners, losers: Urban Meyer, Jaguars continue to lose

2. Will Urban Meyer get his first NFL win this year?

I genuinely don’t know if he will. The Jacksonville Jaguars are now 0-5, Trevor Lawrence is 2nd in the NFL in interceptions, and this team hasn’t won a game since week 1 of last year. To me, they have three chances this year to win a game. They play the Dolphins this week in London, the Falcons in week 12, and the Jets in week 16. Other than those three games I genuinely don’t know if they can pull through and get a win. They are 29th in total defense and 28th in total offense. Let me remind you that there are 32 NFL teams. I honestly don’t know. I just have to sit back and pray for the mental health of Jaguars fans, if there are any left. We’re a long way from Sacksonville.

3. The Washington Football Team is in trouble

From being ranked 4th last year in total defense to now being ranked 31st, someone needs to figure out what is going on in Washington. After squeaking by the New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons, the burgundy and gold have been dealt with a major reality check this week against the Saints. After getting 33 points dropped on them at home by Jameis & Co. WFT will now be scheduled to face the Chiefs, Packers, Broncos and Buccaneers with their next four games. After winning the NFC East last year with a 7-9 record, they were dealt with some quite high expectations coming into the year. I myself even picked them to grab a wildcard spot in the NFC. However, although that is still possible, it’s not looking like an easy road to get there. We’ll see if Heinicke and the defense can step up in this upcoming four-game stretch.

All aboard the Kadarius Toney hype train: Giants rookie WR looks like potential star — and Cowboys think so too: 'He's going to be a great one' - nj.com

4. Kadarius Toney went absolutely insane… in both good and bad ways

This man is the New York Giants last hope on offense. With Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Daniel Jones, Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and Andrew Thomas all injured Toney is now the focal point of the offense. And against a relatively strong Cowboys defense, Toney made defenders constantly look silly. After only getting five targets in his first three games, Toney has exploded in his last two games. Toney caught six passes for 78 yards against the New Orleans Saints and then caught 10 passes for 189 yards. However, after being thrown to the ground by Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee, Toney proceeded to get up and throw a punch, getting himself ejected from the game. Toney is dealing with an ankle injury but will not be dealt a suspension by the league. The Giants are set to take on the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams at home and they’ll need all the help they can get. I’m excited to see how Toney does for the rest of this year.

Lamar Jackson continues to rewrite record books and narratives as a passer - Baltimore Beatdown

5. I don’t ever want to hear any Lamar Jackson slander again

Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr. is the truth.

37/43 for 442 yards and 4 touchdowns.

22 unanswered points to win.

Endless records broken.

A top 5 quarterback without a doubt.

Can’t wait to see this man win a Super Bowl.

The Ravens are currently sitting atop of the AFC North at 4-1. They are a week one overtime loss away from being 5-0. They have a huge test this Sunday at home against the 4-1 Los Angeles Chargers, who have been extremely impressive this season. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes for the Ravens.

The one great thing about football season is that it just keeps on giving. I’m just as happy to write these weekly articles as I am to sit down and watch all the games. The competition is just starting to heat up. Some big games this week are the Chargers vs. Ravens, Browns vs. Cardinals, Cowboys vs. Patriots and Bills vs Titans. Let us pray for the citizens of both Jacksonville, Florida and Detroit, Michigan. Y’all know the drill. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
