Songs I’m Listening To (07/11/2021)

I have just now gotten finished with watching England suffer a heartbreaking defeat in penalties to Italy. So this will definitely influence my song choices, expect some pain anthems to be across this page for sure. This will now be the sixth month in a row that I will have posted a “songs I’m listening to” article. With how fast life is currently going for me before you know it a year will have passed. This is my 51st article on my website since I started in July of 2019. A lot has happened since, but I’m genuinely happy with the progress of both myself and the content on here. There is nothing but bigger and better things on the way, I can’t wait to show you all what I have in store. Here are the songs I’m listening to, July edition. Let’s get into it.

Dave and Storzmy Share New Song “Clash”: Listen | Pitchfork

1. Dave & Stormzy – Clash

It’s not embedding the YouTube videos right so I guess we’re going to have to rock out with just the pictures. I’ll attach the videos in the title of the songs after the numbers. Two of the United Kingdom’s biggest artists linked up for Dave’s lead single for his upcoming album, “We’re All Alone In This Together“. The album is set to drop on July 23rd, coming in at a modest 12 tracks. Since the release of his award-winning album “PSYCHODRAMA” Dave has been falling back for the most part, besides his excellent acting debut on the world-renowned show “Top Boy”. I was super excited to hear this collaboration and I genuinely liked it. The flow is catchy, both Stormzy and Dave brought the energy, and my boy Chunkz even made an appearance in the video. The song is headed directly in to the top of the British charts alongside Ed Sheeran, The Kid Laroi, & Justin Bieber. Both of these artists are at the top of their game and I don’t expect them to step on the brakes any time soon. Very excited to hear the new album from Dave and I’ll be on the lookout to see what Stormzy does next.

2. SoFaygo – Hang With the Goats

For some reason the embedding worked on this one, so I guess it’ll work. This is SoFaygo’s second appearance on the “songs I’m listening to” series since his first one in March and it definitely won’t be his last. I’m a lot more familiar with him and his discography now and I can say that I will for sure be tuning in to the next SoFaygo release. Since his signing in April to Travis Scott’s label Cactus Jack Records, SoFaygo will be on his way to the top very soon. Don’t be surprised if you see his name on the track list for Travis Scott’s upcoming album, “Utopia”. In terms of this song, it has taken the spot as my favorite song of his for now. Alongside one other song that I will now be putting next on my list.

3. SoFaygo – Lust

This man is very talented. There’s not much else I have to say about this song that I haven’t already said. I am excited for what is next to come for the 19 year-old hailing from Atlanta.

4. BabySantana – Prada (remix) ft. Lil Tecca

BabySantana is a 14 year-old from Columbus, Georgia who has taken the underground scene by storm. I first heard of him about a couple of months ago when “Antisocial” ft. Slump6s first dropped. Santana’s music has been going crazy on TikTok and his come up has now led him to the likes of Lil Tecca, who hopped on this remix and did not disappoint. It’s crazy to think that I’m 22 years of age, struggling to get by in college while a 14 year-old is out here gaining millions of streams. All the props to him because that is truly incredible.

Juice WRLD - Legends Never Die - Amazon.com Music

5. Juice WRLD – Fighting Demons

I guess WordPress picks and chooses when to be able to properly embed YouTube videos. Anyways, we move. I said we were going to see some pain songs after England’s loss today and here we are. The legend himself, Juice WRLD with his song “Fighting Demons”. This song was actually one of my favorites off of the “Legends Never Die” album along with “Screw Juice“, “Wishing Well“, and “Blood On My Jeans“. This album was one of the most commercially successful albums of 2020, debuting at #1 with 508K units sold in its first week. However, it was a bittersweet moment for all Juice WRLD fans because he’s no longer here to celebrate it with us. Just yesterday was the one year anniversary of the release of the album. However, us Juice WRLD fans are now once again being blessed with another album. Juice WRLD’s team recently released a trailer for his upcoming album, “The Party Never Ends” which is rumored to be coming soon. Even though I am obviously happy about new music, at what cost are we getting it? I find it hard to truly enjoy posthumous music this long after the artists death. I think I’m just scarred from what happened to X and his whole posthumous situation. I have the same exact thoughts about Pop Smoke and his upcoming album, “FAITH“, which is scheduled to drop on July 16th. At some point, we just have to face reality and let the artists rest in peace. Sadly, I don’t know if the record labels with ever accept that reality and let it happen. Rest in peace to Juice WRLD, we all miss you down here.

Stay (with Justin Bieber) - Single by The Kid LAROI, Justin Bieber | Spotify

6. The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber – Stay

Laroi is on his way to becoming one of music’s next biggest stars. I just hope that the fame doesn’t mess with him too much. All the way from “Let Her Go” in December 2019 to this now is an insane growth. This is Laroi and Bieber’s second collaboration after Laroi was featured on Bieber’s last album on the song, “Unstable“. The two have been seen out a lot together since the release of “Unstable” and Laroi has even signed with Bieber’s management group at Columbia under music mogul Scooter Braun. Laroi has been teasing music for a while, even previously stating that he was going to drop on July 1st, but now he is gearing up to drop the final part of the “F*CK LOVE” trilogy this month. Be on the lookout for Laroi’s next release, with the power of Scooter Braun in the music industry I’m expecting Laroi to hit top 5 on all of his projects for the rest of his career. It’s up to Laroi himself to keep his momentum going with his fanbase and his social media presence on apps like Instagram and TikTok. Big things are ahead for the Australian teenager.

7. Yung Bleu – Love Scars

I’ve been listening and following Yung Bleu for a while now, but I finally did a deep dive on his discography and I think this song right there is my favorite. From the vocals to the automated message at the beginning of the track, it is an incredible song. The Mobile, Alabama native is set to drop his upcoming project, “Moon Boy” on July 23rd. He’s already got Big Sean, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, and now possibly Burna Boy on the album so make sure y’all tune in and give it a listen.

8. G Herbo – Cold World ft. Yosohn

G Herbo’s latest album “25” is his highest charting album ever, landing at the #5 spot on the Billboard 200. The albums’s success is well deserved, as the Chicago native came through with a great listen. Herob’s story-telling and ability to control the song are showcased on each track. Even though at times he may stray off beat, it somehow sounds right and he has the power to make the song get back on track. Although he’s not the biggest selling artist, G Herbo is one of Chicagos biggest and brightest stars. He won’t be going away any time soon.

Bryson Tiller reveals new video for “Right My Wrongs” - REVOLT

9. Bryson Tiller – Right My Wrongs

His best song ever. If you know me you already knew that. I listen to this song like it just dropped yesterday and I will continue to until I get tired of it. Not much else needed. Can’t wait for “Serenity” to finally drop.

10. Brent Faiyaz – Wasting Time ft. Drake

You think I was going to let a Brent Faiyaz and Drake song slide without putting it in the article??? You must not know bout me, you must not know bout meeeee. Legend of the DMV Brent Faiyaz has secured his biggest collaboration of his career yet, linking up with 6 God himself Drake (and getting production from Pharrell). Brent has been pretty laid back since his release of “F**k the World” in early 2020, so I’m expecting an album either at the later part of this year or early next year.

Quick honorable mention to Rod Wave’s song “Out My Business“, who just missed the cut. If I didn’t do only 10 songs for all the other articles then I would’ve put it but it is too late now. Six months down and hopefully many more to come. Once again I’m really excited for what is in store for this website and my content in general. Hopefully you guys will all be following along with the journey. This is yours truly YSN, until next month, signing out.
