Five things to take from Week 8

Five things to take from Week 8

After the incredible despair and pain I went through watching the Patriots get manhandled on Monday Night Football, they managed to bring back some temporary happiness to my life after this week’s win at MetLife. I even got to see a N’Keal Harry touchdown this weekend. What a weekend of football. Let’s get into it.

1. What is going on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

That is now three straight losses for Tom Brady & Co. When you take a look at the tape, the offense just seems off. I don’t know how, but they are constantly not on the same page which is surprising especially because this is Brady’s third year in the offense. Throws are off, blocking assignments are missed and receivers are constantly running wrong routes. And while all this is happening, Tom Brady and Giselle officially filed for divorce. Not a good time for my guy Tom, and it’s not going to get any easier as the Bucs face the Rams and Seahawks in their next two games. They are in serious danger of going 3-7, which would be absolutely insane. The NFC South is definitely something to keep an eye on this year. It’s looking like pure chaos at all times.

2. Taylor Heinicke has the Commanders rolling

What a scrappy win for the Commanders. That makes it two in a row for Taylor Heinicke as a starter. And the Commanders have quietly won three games in a row. They have a big test next Sunday as Kirk Cousins returns to FedEx Field for the first time since leaving the team in 2018. The Vikings are 6-1 and currently winning the NFC North, so prepare for this game to be high energy and high intensity. Also Terry McLaurin is a top 10 receiver in this league. Look at what this man did on the game-winning drive in his hometown of Indianapolis.

3. The Atlanta Falcons are currently leading the NFC South

First of all, what a game. A 37-34 finish in overtime decided the current leader of the NFC South. Both quarterbacks were wheeling and dealing while two running backs filling in for injured starters (Tyler Allegier and D’Onta Foreman) came up huge for their respective teams.

Second of all, Eddy Pineiro has to be able to win this game for the Panthers. P.J. Walker and the offense put in too much work to lose this game. Honestly, I should be talking about how the Panthers are pulling off the impossible instead of the Falcons right now but the former Bears kicker missed the go-ahead PAT at the end of regulation and then missed another chance to win in OT. A tough day at the office for someone who will probably be cut very soon. And let’s remember, the Falcons are doing this without Calvin Ridley.

Lastly, look at this throw from P.J. Walker… insanity.

4. A.J. Brown is now part-owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers

I knew this was going to be a league-shifting move when the Eagles traded for Brown on draft night. Did I know the Eagles were going to start out 7-0 and looking like the most dominant team in football? No, I did not. Brown put on an absolute clinic yesterday, catching six passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Ridiculous. The Eagles next three games you may ask? The Texans on Thursday Night Football, the Commanders and the Colts. Three winnable games and three more games to watch some A.J. Brown dominance. Sports fans in Philadelphia are having a great time right now.

5. Death, taxes and the Niners beating Sean McVay & the Rams

First off, let’s take a look at how crowded the Rams home game was… of 49ers fans.

This game has moved Sean McVay to 0-8 against the 49ers in the regular season. To be fair to McVay, he did win when it truly counted but losing like this at home to a Niners team without Deebo Samuel is never a good look. Christian McCaffrey had himself a day, becoming the first player since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2005 to throw, catch and pass for a touchdown. It’s not like the Rams were terrible, they just weren’t as good as the Niners. Matt Stafford didn’t even turn the ball over either. The Niners just executed their game plan better. Cooper Kupp also got hurt towards the end of the game, but it seems to look like he escaped a major injury thankfully. The Rams have lost three of their last four and if they want to return to the playoffs, they have to turn it up a notch.

Tonight’s game between the Bengals and Browns will be an interesting one to watch, but it unfortunately will not have Ja’Marr Chase as he is dealing with a hip injury. The Giants lost a game this week (which isn’t the norm anymore), Derrick Henry is back to 200+ rushing yard games and DeAndre Hopkins is still the best receiver in the league. Just another day in this wonderful league that we know as the National Football League. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
