Well, I don’t know how I am going to sit down and rank the albums that have dropped so far this year. I mean there’s Future coming with a strong case for album of the year with, “I NEVER LIKED YOU”. However, there’s Giveon with “Give Or Take” and then there’s Lil Durk who dropped two incredible projects (if you want to separate deluxe and original release). One thing for sure, two things for certain, I’m still waiting on UTOPIA to drop. Please Travis, it’s almost been four years. Now let’s get into the music I’m currently listening to.
1. Brent Faiyaz – ALL MINE , 2. Brent Faiyaz – ROLLING STONE
Everybody is talking about Brent Faiyaz’s new project, “WASTELAND”, and they should be. Brent just knows how to carry a song will enticing the listener with tales of toxicity. Then again, Brent himself doesn’t even view his music as “toxic”.
In that case… this that HONESTY MUSIC. Which is crazy to think about because sometimes all people want from their significant other/friend is the truth. But what happens when that honesty just brings nothing but pain and chaos? What is that called? I guess you could say it’s… WASTELAND.
“I guess I’m everything and nothing at the same time”
3. Chris Brown – Passing Time , 4. Chris Brown – Forbidden
This is yet another reminder that this man has been doing this since I was in preschool. Chris Brown dropped his 10th studio album, “Breezy” this past month. While it wasn’t as good as “Indigo“, in my humble opinion, it had some incredible music. The consistency is incredible and I will always be a fan. Of course in true Chris Brown fashion the album was 24 tracks and he dropped a nine-song deluxe along with it. But when the music is great, why complain?
“If I told you the whole truth, would you lie? If my heart is in your hands, will I die?”
5. Central Cee – Straight Back to It
I can’t tell y’all how many times I’ve listened to this album front-to-back. His rise to the top has been insane and he has social media to thank for it. His songs were blowing up on TikTok all during quarantine and his marketing genius has brought him all the way to the top. There’s a reason he went #1 in the UK this year with “23”. You’ll see this album in my top 10 this year, that’s a guarantee.
“Say what I want, you don’t have to relate”
6. Riovaz – You’re a Parasite
I don’t know Riovaz like that, nor do I know his discography. However, this song is incredible. I saw it on a ragerclub TikTok and I haven’t stopped listening since. I hope this guy has a great life because this song is amazing.
“You’ve had your last chance now it’s time for you to go away”
7. YoungBoy Never Broke Again – Vette Motors
The goat scared me a couple days ago when rumors of him retiring after his next album surfaced, but he quickly shut down the speculation. Sometimes when I listening to YoungBoy I just think about how I am older than him and that really messes up my head, because he’s going through stuff right now that I couldn’t even imagine. His court case in California starts today and I’m hoping it goes well. We need him free from the shackles of Utah, because who in the world wants to live in Utah 365 days a year?
“My weight up and now I got the power”
8. Travis Scott – CAN’T SAY ft. Don Toliver
Words can’t describe the feeling that I had when I heard this song for the first time. Astroworld is one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time, and this song has a big role in that. The production by WondaGurl, Sonny Digital and Mike Dean was flawless, the hook was immaculate and Don Toliver’s entrance and flow was heavenly. Listening to this on repeat has been my way of coping without any new Travis Scott music. I really love this album. Maybe one day I’ll do a throwback review.
“Gang too wavy, move like Navy Seals”
9. Tory Lanez – Proud Family
This is actually my favorite Tory Lanez song of all time. January 1st, 2017, “Chixtape 4” and “The New Toronto 2” dropped. As a huge Tory Lanez fan, I couldn’t have been more happy. And when I heard “Proud Family”, I knew it was going to be a song that I would remember forever. The talent just simply can’t go unnoticed.
“I been tryna find your heart, I’m still tryin'”
10. Bryson Tiller – Self Righteous
What do y’all know about THIS???? Man the memories I have with this song. Walking to third block marketing with this blasting through the earbuds in 2015. I feel so old every time I listen to SoundCloud Bryson because I just remember the memories. 2015 Yanni had no idea what was coming for him. 2022 Yanni is a lot wiser, but still has some learning to do.
“Contradictin’ all the things that I’ve been preachin’ in songs”
The series lives on. I just realized that it has been over three years since I starting posting articles on here. My first ever article was July 1st, 2019. Time truly does fly when you’re having fun. Thank you all for making this enjoyable for me and tuning in. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
