Football is the world’s game and we are in for a massive five months. For the first time ever the World Cup will take place outside of the summer as Qatar hosts this year from November 21st – December 18th. Year in and year out fans over the world are waiting on who’s going to be the next superstar. In this article I’m going to name five players that I think will take a leap forward in their game this year. Let’s get into it.
1. Ryan Sessegnon, LB/LWB, Tottenham Hotspurs
Now Spurs is definitely one of my most hated clubs. However, I can’t deny potential when I see it. Ryan Sessegnon has had some difficulty fitting in to this Spurs side since his move from Fulham in the summer of 2019. Despite that, he has managed to keep working and towards the end of last year the young Englishman started seeing some more game time under new manager Antonio Conte. With Conte’s recent announcement that previous starting left-back Sergio Reguilón is not in his future plans, it’s Sessegnon’s time to shine.
2. Anthony Elanga, Winger, Manchester United
The 20 year-old from Sweden has already made his mark on the football world, scoring three times and assisting twice for the Red Devils. Elanga is great on the ball and can provide a spark at any given moment for his side. His high energy on the pitch may find him consistent game time under new manager Erik ten Hag. With the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving this summer, Elanga’s stock is currently going up in Manchester. Look out for Elanga speeding down the wing this year.
3. Karim Adeyemi, ST, Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund have been on an absolute madness this transfer window. Bringing in big names like Sébastien Haller and Niklas Süle for a combined fee of only $34.1 million. However, the most promising signing the Black and Yellow have made is for Karim Adeyemi. Adeyemi is a 20 year-old German forward who is coming from Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. Adeyemi is an exciting talent that possesses great poise in the box and will see a lot of goals in his future. Just last year the young German netted 23 times and assisted nine more in 44 competitions for Salzburg. With Dortmund’s excellent track record for developing world-class talent, keep your eye on Karim Adeyemi.
4. Charles de Ketelaere, CAM, Club Brugge
The Belgians have struck gold once again. This time, it is in the form of Charles de Ketelaere. The 21 year-old attacking midfielder is at the top of several major club transfer lists and is keen to make a move this summer. Despite being on several clubs radar, the young Belgian only has one club in mind. The 2021/22 Serie A Champions, AC Milan. The young players in that club have developed incredibly (Rafael Leão, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernández and Brahim Diaz) and I expect de Ketelaere to have that some type of progression. After scoring 18 times and assisting 10 more in 49 competitions last year, the sky is the limit for the young talent.
5. Aurélien Tchouaméni, CDM, Real Madrid
As one of the most expensive signings of the summer, Aurélien Tchouaméni already has super high expectations. The 22 year-old Frenchman has a knack for the ball and is an aggressive tackler. Watching him at Monaco you just see how easy the game comes to him. He can strike from outside the box when needed to and he is always cutting off passing lanes for the opposing team. He reminds me of another former Monaco and Madrid player, Fabinho. While Tchouaméni has more flair in his play style, like Fabinho, he is elite and tackling and setting up his teammates for success. He’s going to enter a Real Madrid side with a world-class midfield group, so I expect him to get even better. It’s scary hours for any other team in LaLiga.
These young talents will have their chances to become superstars and maybe even club legends. However, it’s up to them if they want to become club legends or end up like Ravel Morrison. Sorry to Ravel Morrison for that stray. Only time will tell. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
