It’s time to lock in. I am three weeks away from graduating college, which is insane to think about. However, the time is now. A time that is greatly appreciated by football fans all over the country. It is NFL Draft season. The prospects are off the charts this year at positions like edge rusher, wide receiver and cornerback. With the madness that this off-season has created only time will tell to see who will come out of this draft victorious. Last year I did a full seven-round mock draft. I predicted all 259 picks in the draft. For time sake I don’t know if I’ll do that again. I guess it will just depend on how the first round goes. Without further ado, let’s start the official YSN 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Round 1

1. Jacksonville Jaguars – Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

With their second consecutive #1 overall pick I have the Jaguars selecting Travon Walker. Walker was an integral part to the Bulldog’s defense that brought home the schools first championship in over 30 years back to Athens. Walker has great size (6’5″, 272 lbs) and can get to the quarterback at an incredible pace (4.51 40-yard dash). He rose on to the scene late as the potential #1 pick and I can honestly see Hutchinson going here as well, but for now I got Walker taking the first spot. Walker and Josh Allen on the same defensive line is going to be fun to watch.

2. Detroit Lions – Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan

The Detroit Lions stay local and take Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson with the second pick in the draft. Hutchinson is coming off a historic year for the Wolverines, recording 14 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss for the Maize and Blue. Hutchinson also finished second in Heisman voting only behind Alabama’s Bryce Young. Hutchinson is one of the best power rushers the draft has seen in a long time and he will provide that hard-nosed type of football that Dan Campbell and his Lions staff want.

3. Houston Texans – Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State

Look at the state of this lad. Man is 6’4″ 310 lbs with a 7′ wingspan. Ridiculousness. Ekwonu and Laremy Tunsil on one offensive line should be enough to protect the Texans next franchise quarterback for years to come. Who that will be? Only time will tell.

4. New York Jets – Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon

Three edge rushers in the first four picks. It’s unique but the way it’s looking right now, it seems expected. The talent is simply too good to pass up. Thibodeaux himself was looked at as a lock for the #1 pick for a while until some teams claimed they had concerns about his character. Just a reminder that 11 teams passed up on Micah Parsons because of similar concerns and then he went on to have a historic rookie season for the Cowboys, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year. Thibodeaux is coming off a year where he recorded seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss in only 10 games for the Ducks. Him and Quinnen Williams on the line together will be scary for opposing offensive lineman. Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas are building something in there at MetLife.

Fan Opinion – Walter Reyes

We need a pass rusher so Kayvon would fit well. Him and Carl Lawson would be great on both ends. At #10 I think we’re going with a wideout and I think we’ll take Drake London. Corey Davis is a great receiver but he’s really not a jump ball receiver and that is the type of wideout that Zach Wilson thrived with at BYU.

5. New York Giants – Evan Neal, OT, Alabama

Neal is explosive and great with his feet for an offensive tackle weighing in at 337 pounds. And in the possible last year of the Daniel Jones experiment, Neal will be a crucial addition to an offensive line that has struggled over the last couple of years. Neal and Andrew Thomas will anchor the outside while the Giants will look to fill the inside with some better talent for Danny Dimes and Saquon Barkley.

6. Carolina Panthers – Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

The genius of a football coach Ben McAdoo recently let it slip that Sam Darnold was his starting quarterback for the 2022 season so expect Carolina to beef up the offensive line here with Cross. An agile and strong tackle, Cross will learn from starting tackle Taylor Moton and will hopefully contribute immediately to an offense that showed promise at times last year.

Fan Opinion – Terrell Byrd

I would like to take Evan Neal if he falls to us because I think he’s the best offensive lineman in this draft prospect. However, if Neal doesn’t fall to us I would like to trade back a couple spots for Malik Willis. It all depends if we sign Duane Brown or not because that changes our needs going into this draft.

7. New York Giants – Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

Hamilton could’ve possibly been the first pick in this draft if it weren’t for a knee injury he suffered this past October against USC. This is almost an obvious pick for a team that just lost both Jabrill Peppers and Logan Ryan in the offseason. Hamilton will look to contribute immediately alongside a secondary composed of other young talent (Adoree’ Jackson & Xavier McKinney).

8. Atlanta Falcons – Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State

Arthur Smith reuniting with his old quarterback Marcus Mariota shows me that this team is looking towards revamping an offense that was led by Matt Ryan for a decade and a half. I see a whole new playbook and play style under Arthur Smith this year. And why not give Marcus Mariota an elite wideout in the first round to help him settle in. Especially since Calvin Ridley is suspended for the whole year.

Fan Opinion – Marthell Hicks III

Jordan Davis, have someone after Grady Jarrett leaves, start building a good defense for the quarterback we draft next year or the year after. I just hope we don’t draft Malik Willis.

9. Seattle Seahawks – Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

The first quarterback from an arguably “weak” quarterback class is now off the board to the Seahawks. After Pete Carroll & Co. traded away their franchise quarterback for the past 10+ years. Willis will come in and compete with Drew Lock for the starting job and will have some weapons around him to work with in D.K. Metcalf, Noah Fant, Tyler Lockett and Rashaad Penny.

10. New York Jets – Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

Robert Saleh is a defensive guy. You go and grab C.J. Uzomah in the offseason but you also get Jordan Whitehead to beef up the defense. But with the first two picks in the draft the Jets go defense. The AFC isn’t getting any easier, especially with all these new quarterbacks, Sauce Gardner would be a great fit for a team that needs a tall lockdown corner.

11. Washington Commanders – Drake London, WR, USC

I don’t think Kenny Pickett is worth taking here at #11. And with Terry McLaurin wanting a new contract, it’s not guaranteed that he’s going to stay. Drake London is a go-getter and a possible great sidekick alongside Terry himself. Despite his injury this past year he should be ready to go for this year.

Fan Opinion – Khalil Snekcim

I would like Malik Willis if he fell to us because of the weapons that we currently have. He would fit our system perfectly in my opinion. And plus you know how Washington loves drafting people from the DMV.

12. Minnesota Vikings – Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU

The last time the Vikings picked someone from LSU it didn’t turn out too bad right? Also pairing Stingley with former LSU star Patrick Peterson would bring him great veteran leadership and would definitely start his development right. Who says no?

13. Houston Texans – Jermaine Johnson Jr., EDGE, Florida State

A Last Chance U legend, Johnson is coming off a career year with the Seminoles. He recorded 11.5 sacks along with 17.5 tackles for loss. He’ll make a living in this league as a great run defender but he obviously has shown that he can rush the passer. The Texans will be looking for someone to bring that heat off the edge ever since they let J.J. Watt walk out their doors last year.

14. Baltimore Ravens – Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson

John Harbaugh said in several games last year that they decided to go for two in game-winning situations because if they went to overtime they wouldn’t have been able to field enough corners. This would be the perfect time to take Booth. Booth is coming off his best year statistically at Clemson and even though he isn’t the biggest cornerback prospect in this draft he is physical at the line and he is great when the ball is in the air. I like the Ravens pairing him up with Marlon Humphrey here.

15. Philadelphia Eagles – Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

McDuffie isn’t the flashy name at corner nor is he the corner that is going to get double-digit interceptions. However, he is the corner that is going to dive his nose into the run game and make crucial tackles when it matters most. He is good in both zone and man schemes and has shown that he is tough to block. There’s another Washington Huskies cornerback in this draft that will be taken down the line, but McDuffie is the first one to come off the board.

16. New Orleans Saints – Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

Another Buckeye wideout off the board here in the 2022 NFL draft. Olave has been consistently tearing up secondaries at Ohio State for about four years now. Ohio State is honestly wide receiver university right now, or it has looked like that for the past couple of years. I don’t think former Buckeye and current all-time single-season reception holder Michael Thomas would disagree with that either. Let Jameis cook with some new weapons.

17. Los Angeles Chargers – Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia

This is a pretty simple pick. The Chargers finished 30th in total and rushing defense last year. Look at Jordan Davis. There is your answer.

18. Philadelphia Eagles – Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns. Imagine the pairing of Jameson Williams and DeVonta Smith. I think Eagles fans would be tattooing Lombardi Trophies on their arms if this happened. Lock it in Howie.

19. New Orleans Saints – George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

My fellow Greek. Karlaftis moved to America when he was a teenager and within five years he became the Defensive Player of the Year at the Army All-American game. Karlaftis has a great first step and has the power to run offensive lineman off of the line of scrimmage. Since losing Trey Hendrickson, the Saints have been looking for Cameron Jordan’s next partner on the defensive line. They missed on Payton Turner last year, it’s Karlaftis time to shine.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers – Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

Pickett can stretch the play like Ben Roethlisberger used to do, but he actually has speed (4.67 40-yard dash). Pickett had a monstrous year last year with the Panthers throwing for 42 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while also running in five more. While leading them to an ACC title, Pickett’s draft stock quietly went up and I think Pittsburgh is the perfect fit for him.

21. New England Patriots – Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

This is what the Patriots have been needing ever since Jamie Collins left after his first stint with us. A sideline-to-sideline linebacker that can play all three downs while covering the fast running backs or physical tight ends in the passing game. Lloyd has great size (6’2″, 237 lbs) and speed (4.66 40-yard dash) and would learn quickly under Ja’Whaun Bentley. Lloyd is a former receiver and safety so he has ball skills and he would thrive in Bill Belichick’s defense full of safety/linebacker hybrids (Adrian Phillips, Jabrill Peppers & Kyle Dugger).

Fan Opinion – Will Camire

I think with such a deep class at DB and WR, all signs point to the Pats getting an O-Lineman. If they want instant production, I hope they get Raimann and kick Wynn inside to LG. Might help wynns career and I think Raimann can hold his own since he has quicker feet than most other lineman since he was originally a tight end.

22. Green Bay Packers – Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

After losing Davante Adams in a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Packers will definitely be looking for a wideout in the first round here. Dotson is a physical receiver that can high point any ball thrown to him even at only 5’11”. A huge positive about Dotson is that during his four years under James Franklin at Penn State is that he gradually got better every year. And last year he put the cherry on top with 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns. Now you insert Dotson in the Packers offense with Aaron Rodgers and you’ll truly see how good this man can be.

23. Arizona Cardinals – Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida

A 6’2″ corner with 4.39 speed to pair alongside Byron Murphy sounds pretty good to me. Elam is a great matchup on defense for any coordinator and he’ll be able to guard any position on the field. This will be a great addition to a secondary that isn’t this teams strong suit.

24. Dallas Cowboys – Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

After losing La’El Collins in free agency to the Bengals, Jerry World & Co. will need another big body in the trenches to protect Sir Dak and Zeke. Trevor Penning (6’7″, 318 lbs) is definitely the man for the job. I can also see Dallas going with Daxton Hill here but I like Penning as in immediate replacement.

25. Buffalo Bills – Tyler Linderbaum, OL, Iowa

Josh Allen is arguably the most valuable asset that this league has. So why not do all you can to protect him and his future? Linderbaum is a proven talent and would be an immediate starter on this squad.

26. Tennessee Titans – Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

After the failed Julio Jones experiment, I see the Titans going for Treylon Burks here. Burks did exceptional against real competition in the SEC last year (1,104 yards and 11 TDs). He has great speed, size and can lineup anywhere on the offense. Titans would greatly benefit with his selection.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Lewis Cine, S, Georgia

The Buccaneers were told that they reached for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka last year in the draft at pick #32 but he came off the bench behind some veterans and logged in four sacks and five tackles for loss. This might be considered a reach, but Cine would be a perfect compliment to Antoine Winfield Jr. in the Buccaneers secondary. He’s great in coverage and he’s also not afraid to come downhill and lay the boom on somebody. Would love this pick here for new head coach Todd Bowles.

28. Green Bay Packers – Devonte Wyatt, DL, Georgia

Now this pick can be interchangeable with Jordan Davis going to LA at pick #17. That Georgia defense was really different. Travon Walker, Davis and Wyatt all on the same defensive line. No wonder why they won the championship. Wyatt is a 300 pound defensive tackle with explosive speed and unhinged power. Putting him in the trenches with Kenny Clark is nightmare fuel to all offensive lineman in the NFC North.

29. Kansas City Chiefs – Daxton Hill, S, Michigan

Hill’s speed, quickness and instincts on the field are all that the Chiefs have been missing with Daniel Sorensen. Hill is definitely not no Tyrann Mathieu, but he is a start at replacing the Honey Badger.

30. Kansas City Chiefs – Boye Mafe, EDGE, Minnesota

With the losses of Melvin Ingram and Jarran Reed leaving in the offseason, Boye Mafe would be an incredible replace. Mafe’s draft stock has been on the rise recently due to his quickness and his extreme athleticism.

31. Cincinnati Bengals – Zion Johnson, OL, Boston College

Please for the love of God protect Joe Burrow. Johnson can play both on the inside and outside in the trenches and is an absolute unit. This pick right here will be the last piece to the puzzle and then the Bengals front office can focus on defense and surrounding Burrow with some more weapons + a C.J. Uzomah replacement.

32. Detroit Lions – Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

Dan Campbell called out Jared Goff on multiple occasions last year during the Lions rebuild campaign. Why not challenge Goff by bringing in a proven winner with experience in Desmond Ridder. Ridder’s strong arm and athleticism might be able to win over the Lions coaching staff in the training camp as well. You never know. The last quarterback to be picked at #32… Lamar Jackson.
