The best weekend of football I’ve ever watched. Plain and simple. All four games were decided in walk-off fashion. The one big takeaway from last weekend, the league is in good hands. Let’s get into it.
No. 4 Cincinnati Bengals (12-7) at No. 2 Kansas City Chiefs (14-5) (3:00 p.m. EST)
TWO WORDS. JOE SHIESTY. Honestly though, how in the world have the Bengals even made it here in the first place? Unless you lived in the Cincinnati area, you were not predicting this before the season started. The Bengals have won their last five games with Joe Burrow and I don’t think they plan on stopping here. Everything in my heart is telling me to go with the Chiefs here. Patrick Mahomes & Co. just dropped 42 points on the league’s best defense and they are going to be at home once again. A place where Patrick Mahomes has only lost once in the playoffs (see 2018 AFC Championship game). But I just can’t pick against Joe Shiesty. Especially with that offense against the Chiefs 27th ranked pass defense (possibly without Tyrann Mathieu). Can’t find it in my heart to do so. This Bengals team just feels like a team of destiny to me. If they lose, it will be widely expected around the league. But if they win, it’ll send shockwaves throughout the football community that haven’t been felt since the Giants beat the Patriots in 2007. I know I said on my show that the Chiefs are going to win, but like I said, how can I pick against this Bengals team. #WhoDey
Final Score: Bengals 35, Chiefs 32
No. 6 San Francisco 49ers (12-7) at No. 4 Los Angeles Rams (14-5) (6:30 p.m. EST)
Both of these teams weren’t supposed to be here this weekend. Both of these teams went into their opposing team’s stadiums and beat MVP candidates at the quarterback position. The 49ers held the potent Green Bay Packers offense to a single touchdown on the opening drive of the game and the Rams jumped out to a 27-3 lead against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. The Niners have beat the Rams already twice this season, but I just can’t see them beating them a third time. And especially if Jimmy Garoppolo is only throwing 11 completions for under 150 yards. That just isn’t enough to beat this Rams team. Would I like to see Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams walk into the Super Bowl with “Super Gremlin” playing on that boombox? Of course I would. I just don’t know if they can beat the Rams for a third time in LA for the Super Bowl.
Final Score: Rams 26, 49ers 17
We sadly only have three games left in the NFL season, but what a ride it has been. Last week just represented this whole season perfectly. Finally getting fans back in the stadium after last year, teams that were injured last year coming back to the playoffs & now we have an official retirement from Ben Roethlisberger. If the Rams win on Sunday, they will become the second team to host a Super Bowl in NFL history after the Buccaneers did it last year. How crazy is that? Something that never happened in league history now could possibly happen two years in a row. We have some interesting scenarios that could possibly play out. We could have two very high powered offenses coming together to play each other in the Chiefs and Rams or we could even see a Super Bowl 54 rematch with the Chiefs and the Niners. If the Chiefs win, it would be Patrick Mahomes third straight AFC Championship. Through all the hate and noise that they were getting at the beginning of the year, that would be one huge accomplishment. The only team that’s standing in their way of that is the Joe Burrow led Bengals. The Bengals have never won a Super Bowl and haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 1989, when they lost to Joe Montana and the Niners. Whatever happens, I’ll be here to enjoy it. This is YSN, until next time, signing out.
