I haven’t worked this much ever in my life. However, a lot of my new responsibilities have to do with what I want to do in my career so at least I can be appreciative of that. I almost missed out on this months “songs I’m listening to article” but I’m currently writing this in my urban studies class. Sorry professor I had to sacrifice my attention for the sake of my website. However, another month has gone and 2021 is coming to a close very soon. Drake dropped “Certified Lover Boy” on the 3rd of this month, Baby Keep dropped his debut album “The Melodic Blue” on the 10th, and Youngboy dropped his long awaited “Sincerely, Kentrell” on the 24th. And the music is not going to stop anytime soon as Meek Mill is dropping an album for the first time in almost three years called “Expensive Pain” this Friday. Cactus Jack star Don Toliver just announced today that he is dropping his album, “Life of a Don” on October 8th. And last but definitely not least, Young Thug is dropping his album “PUNK” on October 15th. That right there is an incredible three week run. Now in terms of today, let’s talk about what I’m listening to.
1. Meek Mill ft. Lil Uzi Vert – Blue Notes 2
The time has finally come. As a Meek fan, we’ve been just ignoring his tweets and promises of an album “coming soon”. So when I saw he officially announced an album with a release date I had to do a double take. “Expensive Pain” will definitely be a statement project for Meek, as he hasn’t released any full-length project since “Championships” in November of 2018. The snippets that he has been previewing have obviously made me excited, but both singles that he released show that he is not playing around with his music (Sharing Locations & Blue Notes 2). The album is going to be a total of 18 tracks, 15 new songs after you subtract the released singles, and I couldn’t be any more excited.
2. RTB Capo x RTB MB – StephMcGrady
If you not bumping Miles Bridges then I don’t know what to tell you. Being born and raised in Flint, Michigan, his rapping style clearly reflects the sound of modern-day Michigan rap. I don’t know how Adam Silver would feel about listening to some RTB MB, but I sure as hell am bumping his music with no issue.
3. The Kid Laroi – BEST FOR ME
The Kid Laroi just turned 18 this past August. He has spent six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Stay”. I was worried about getting to my 8 a.m. community college class at 18. His work is gradually improving and now after leaving the Scooter Braun machine he has signed with Lil Nas X’s manager Adam Leber. No matter who is representing the young Aussie, the quality of music is still consistent and until that goes away, he’s due for a very long career in this industry.
4. GIVĒON – For Tonight
Giveon recently announced his first headline tour that will be taking place this upcoming winter. The tour consists of 15 shows from November 28th-December 22nd. It sold out in under an hour. The man is a superstar in the making. Whenever he decides to drop his debut album, just know that it destined for a top five spot on the Billboard 200. Ever since I started listening to him last February, he hasn’t missed a single time. I personally can’t wait to listen to this mans album because I know how much effort he puts into every single one of his songs. I can’t even fathom the process that he’s probably going through to put together a debut album. Even though I may disagree with his pizza preferences, I will definitely be dropping everything to tune in to his album whenever he decides to drop it.
5. Kanye West ft. Roddy Ricch & Shenseea – Pure Souls
THE TRUTH THE ONLY THING YOU GET AWAY WITHHHH!!! I mean I just love this song. From Roddy’s electric entrance to the track, Kanye carrying the beat and bringing the two features together perfectly, and Shenseea bodying her part it is just an amazing piece of art. I love this song and it is still only ninth on my “DONDA” rankings. That just goes to show you how great of an album “DONDA” really is.
6. YoungBoy Never Broke Again – Life Support
“This is my favorite album I’ve ever listened to” – Myron Terrell Byrd II circa. September 2021
YoungBoy dropped his most recent album “Sincerely, Kentrell” on September 24th. Although he has been behind bars in Louisiana since April, he is still projected to go head-to-head with Drake for the #1 album spot. YoungBoy is one of the most polarizing figures in the music industry, developing a cult-like fanbase that constantly have him dominating the charts on both Billboard and YouTube. Despite his current legal situation with very little promotion for the album, he is battling arguably the biggest artist in the world for the #1 album spot. It’s just insane to see, especially since he’s still only 21 years old. Hopefully he gets out soon, stays safe, and out of trouble. And always remember kids… L + ratio + yb better.
7, 8, & 9. Drake – Pipe Down, Drake – Get Along Better ft. Ty Dolla $ign, Drake – F*****g Fans
I still can’t believe this man really choose this as the cover. I figured lets put all three of them into one so we only have to see it once on this article. The “Certified Lover Boy” review is certainly coming soon I just have to sort out a lot of school stuff first. I mean it’s the fourth week of the album being out and he’s still fighting for the #1 album spot. I mean, he’s Drake. Greatness is all that is expected.
10. Gunna & Future – Too Easy
Just like Gunna said in the song, “man this s*** too easy“. After the snippet went absolutely viral on TikTok Gunna and Wheezy added Mr. Freebandz to make the song somehow even better. Gunna is coming soon with his upcoming project, “Drip Season 4” and we as fans are all waiting on it.
It’s just been a great year for music in general. If you guys thought I was excited for my album of the year of article last year, just wait until this December when I drop this article. We keep the songs I’m listening to articles going for another month. Through all the chaos, we move. Until next time, this is YSN, signing out.
