19 year old Portuguese wonder-kid Joâo Félix has signed to Atlético Madrid for a whopping 126 Million Euros. He signed a seven year contract with the club and will be wearing the #7 shirt. This means that it is basically confirmed that he will be replacing the clubs former star Antoine Griezmann, who is reportedly leaving to Barcelona very soon. He broke out into the spotlight this year after taking the Primeira Liga (Portuguese League) by storm and becoming the youngest player to score a hat trick ever in the Europa League at 19 years and 152 days. He is the 4th biggest transfer of all time in front of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, and Eden Hazard to Real Madrid. He comes with some serious expectations after an amazing season at Benfica, scoring 15 goals and 7 assists in the Primeira Liga and 3 goals in the Europa League. He is a complete forward with speed, agility, a powerful shot, and the potential to become one of the worlds best players.
With every step it seems that he is having the same type of career path as his country’s hero, Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo started his career in Lisbon as well (for the rival of Benfica, Sporting Lisbon) and then also had a big money move to a huge club (Manchester United). If Félix wants to become the next big Portuguese soccer star he must step up and lead the Rojiblancos (Atlético) to Champions League glory and learn under Ronaldo at the international level. The future is bright for this young star, the expectations are high, and it is now up to him to deliver and prove to the fans that he can be their next club legend.
